Dear Centricity™ EMR and Centricity Practice Solutions Customers:

In the context of your readiness for 2019 quality reporting programs and the need to use 2015 CEHRT, we want to bring to your attention an activity that can be pursued separately from your Centricity Practice Solution or Centricity EMR upgrade. The activation of Centricity Integration with Azure, our Azure Active Directory (AAD) solution is a pre-requisite to your ability to implement Patient API Access and generate a CCDA 2.1. For this reason we recommend putting  Centricity Integration with Azure on the top of your 2015 CEHRT readiness list.

Log into the Customer Portal and read the communication to learn more AAD and steps you need to take toward 2015 CEHRT Preparedness.

Dear Centricity™ Practice Solution and Centricity EMR Customers:

Building on the content we already shared in our recent ONC 2015 Edition Preparedness webinar, we have created a new webinar series on the topic to support your transition. The first webinar begins on May 23.

As I mentioned previously, we want to be sure you are aware that compliance with the 2019 CMS (Medicare and Medicaid) quality payment programs1 will require a four-step process that we estimate can take up to three months. This process must be complete before the start of your performance period, so the time to prepare is now.

You may already know that all eligible clinicians are required to use 2015 CEHRT for the reporting of performance in the Promoting Interoperability (PI) performance category in 2019. Our certified software, Centricity Practice Solution 12.3 or Centricity EMR 9.12, must be in use for the entire performance period, which is a minimum of 90 consecutive days.

However, we want to be sure you know that meeting the requirements involves more than an upgrade. In addition, you must enable technology and complete workflow verifications to ensure compliance with the PI objectives and measures. Each organization is slightly different, yet we estimate it can take up to three months to complete all preparation steps. This webinar series will dive more deeply into important aspects of the process.

We cannot over-emphasize the importance of preparing early. Please join our webinar series to learn more about key activities that must be complete before the start of your performance period.

Dear Centricity™ Practice Solution and Centricity EMR Customers:

As you prepare for the 2019 CMS (Medicare and Medicaid) quality payment programs, we want to make sure you have the resources you need for 2015 Edition CEHRT preparedness. Please take a few minutes to complete our survey to better enable us to provide you with the resources you need.

Log into the Customer Portal and read the communication to learn more about steps you need to take toward 2015 CEHRT Preparedness.

Dear Centricity Practice Solution and Centricity EMR Customers:

We would like to direct your attention to two important product issues with electronic prescription renewal requests:

Issue #1: The medication in the message to the pharmacy may be incorrect if the user makes a change to the renewal following a non-standard workflow. This will affect all versions of Centricity Practice Solution 12.2.X, 12.3.X and Centricity EMR 9.10.X, 9.12.X.

Issue #2: In response to an electronic renewal request from the pharmacy, a user can change the quantity qualifier in the prescription refill form. Upon making the change using the inline edit field, the patient instructions will be replaced with “Undefined”. If the user proceeds without modifying the instructions, the resulting response to the pharmacy reverts to the original prescription with the original quantity qualifier and patient instructions. However, the chart note and prescription history will maintain the changes and display the new quantity qualifier and “Undefined” in the instructions. If the user changes the quantity qualifier in the prescription form via the edit icon, the resulting response to the pharmacy will not contain the change in quantity qualifier that is now represented in the patient’s medication list. This will affect all versions of Centricity Practice Solution 12.3.X and Centricity EMR 9.12.X.

Dear Centricity™ Practice Solution and Centricity EMR Customers:

We are now eight weeks into the merger with athenahealth, and I am writing to reassure you that, although our corporate name has changed, our commitment to you is unwavering. We are now one company under the athenahealth brand that supports both the Centricity and athenaOne product suite. We will continue to proceed with planned release updates and endeavor to provide the best possible support for Centricity Practice Solution, Centricity EMR, Community Health Solution, and related products. Your success and satisfaction are our number one priority.

We remain focused on upgrading and maintaining the comprehensive workflow solutions that integrate EMR, practice management, population health, patient engagement, analytics and connectivity solutions to help you serve your patients. In the last six months we’ve:

  • Enabled access to PDMP in over thirty states
  • Kicked-off the SP3 Limited Availability process
  • Deployed VBC Analytics to hundreds of providers
  • Deployed Hospital Connect v1.0 to over 35 practices across the country
  • Released Hospital Connect v2.0 with auto-query in Limited Availability – Released Ambulatory Population Health tools
  • Released a new Workflow Optimization Analytics application
  • Continued to deploy FHIR based APIs
  • Developed v19 to be released in the second half of the year
  • Provided access to hundreds of online training courses
  • Supported many customers with their deployment of Simple Chart

Over the last few weeks, we’ve received a lot of valuable insights from you. You’ve shared the features that you value the most, such as managing your own revenue cycle processes, the ability to create robust and customized content, and the open access to, and reportability of, your data. We’ve also learned more about the things we could improve, including the eRx process, immunizations, and the overall user interface.

We are taking all of your recent and prior feedback and are incorporating portions of it in a revised roadmap that we’re planning to release later this year. In the meantime, we remain committed to our planned 2019 releases and the solutions you are anticipating. Centricity Practice Solution and Centricity EMR v.19 are scheduled for Limited Availability in the second half of the year.

We continue to make progress on the integration of our two companies. We believe our combined organization will bring you even more value through extensive expertise, exceptional customer experience, and industry-leading capabilities. As Bob Segert, our Chairman and CEO, indicated in his letter announcing the merger on February 11th, our goal is to leverage the best of both the Centricity and athenaOne offerings to bring an improved, world class portfolio to market. We are committed to our strategic priorities of helping you navigate the transition to value-based care, improving revenue cycle performance, and enhancing the clinician experience. We expect to share more about our combined product strategy later in the year.

Thank you again for your continued partnership with us. We will be as transparent as possible through this integration process, and you can expect to hear more from us in early May. We continue to seek your feedback, and would appreciate your input on this three-minute survey to tell us how we’re doing and submit ideas for how we can better serve you.

Dear Virence Health customer,

We are reaching out to you today to inform you that, after much consideration, we will not be holding the Virence Health Customer Summit (formerly known as Centricity™ LIVE) this year. As you are aware from earlier announcements, we expect to fully combine with athenahealth very soon. This transaction presents us with new opportunities for leveraging the combined scale and expertise of our two organizations to deliver superior value to our customers. Postponing the Summit will allow us to take a step back, evaluate and optimize our customer engagement strategy to ensure we’re seizing every opportunity available to add new value and deliver a better customer experience. Similarly, the API Healthcare team will now have the opportunity to establish their own customer engagement approach.

As we continue to enhance our ability to serve you with world-class products and services, we will be seeking your valuable input regarding our path forward. In the weeks to come we’ll be reaching out to understand how we can best engage with you and help ensure you succeed using our solutions.

Important Virence Health Announcement

Today Virence Health expanded its ability to deliver differentiated customer value

This is an exciting day for Virence Health and our customers, as we just announced the closing of our merger with athenahealth. This important milestone takes our combined companies private, with the sponsorship of Veritas Capital and Evergreen Coast Capital, enabling us to take a longer-term view on growth and innovation and providing fresh capital to accelerate our strategic plans. Our new organization, known as athenahealth, is now even better positioned in the industry to fundamentally change the healthcare landscape.

Now 160,000 providers strong, we remain steadfast in our vision to create the largest, most connected network in healthcare with the power to unleash even greater insights and efficiency. In today’s healthcare landscape, having access to data isn’t enough; our unmatched interoperability allows us to leverage the immense data in our network to gain actionable insights that drive better outcomes. We will leverage the full power of the athenahealth platform to create value for all of our customers.

Our Commitment to Your Experience
We are a services and solutions business and our success is anchored to your success. Delivering on commitments and driving unique value will be the foundation of our culture and business model, and we will drive an exceptional customer experience with no disruption in the service you have come to expect from our team.

Product Direction
We remain committed to our strategy of addressing customer needs and finding new ways to reduce your work and improve the clinician experience. We will continue to define and focus our product strategy as we review the solutions within the Virence Health and athenahealth product suites. The addition of athenahealth capabilities will directly benefit your organization with an infusion of new functionality and services. Our network and platform uniquely position us to help our clients succeed at risk and value-based care, which will be a key strategic focus for the year ahead. Additionally, we are committed to two additional areas of focus: improving revenue cycle performance and ROI, while enhancing the clinician experience through greater interoperability. We look forward to sharing our enhanced product roadmaps with you later this year.

In closing, I’m excited to serve as the new Chairman and CEO of athenahealth, and to be surrounded by an amazing leadership team with deep healthcare and technology expertise. Today we take the first step on a promising journey toward the future of healthcare and I couldn’t be prouder of our team. I also want to thank you for your business. You are the reason that we exist as a company, and you have my commitment that we will continue to prove our value to you and strive to maintain your trust going forward. As we move through our integration, we will continue to communicate our progress so that you can stay abreast of the exciting changes at athenahealth!

Until next time…

Virence Billing Module Impacted

Dear Centricity™ Practice Solution Customers:

As your essential partner for better healthcare outcomes, we are dedicated to collaborating with you to ensure your Centricity solutions are meeting the needs of your practice. This message is to inform you of a known performance issue in the product that impacts the Billing module in Centricity Practice Solution (CPS) 12.3.0 and later.

In CPS 12.3.0 we replaced VB with .NET, a technical change that controls how billing transactions are processed and is the source of a memory leakage issue that is causing some customers to
experience slowness, freezing, and crashing in the software. In CPS 12.3 SP3, we will reinstate the older VB code while we resolve the .NET issues. This will return the billing performance to levels
experienced prior to 12.3. We will include the replacement of VB with .NET in a later release.

What does this mean for you?
If you use the billing module and are experiencing these performance issues, we recommend upgrading to CPS 12.3 SP3 when it becomes available. This will resolve the billing slowness,
crashing, and/or freezing introduced in 12.3 and return the billing module’s performance to levels experienced prior to 12.3. Those resolutions will also be in v19.

For Customers currently on a version of CPS 12.3.x and experiencing these issues in billing, here are some methods you can implement to reduce the occurrence of these issues while determining your upgrade path:

• Instruct your billing module users to log completely out of Centricity during breaks (e.g. lunch break). This can help reduce the occurrence of these performance issues.
• For CPS 12.3 SP2 users, there is a client-side patch available for download on the Centricity Practice Solutions Support community in our Customer portal. This has helped some
customers reduce the out of memory crashing experienced in the billing module.

We are committed to supporting our customers and we want to work with you to minimize the impact this issue has on your practice. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact us immediately. Direct customers, please contact Centricity Support Services by calling 1-888-436-8491.

Customers supported by a VAR, please contact your VAR representative. Please be assured that maintaining a high level of quality and usability is our highest priority.

Dear CHUG Community,

Last week members of the CHUG Board had the opportunity to sit down and have a meeting with Bob Segert, the new CEO of Virence Health and Chad Dodd, VP of Ambulatory Practice Solutions.  This was a positive and encouraging meeting and we felt like Bob was supportive of the CPS platform and its users.  He has a good understanding of the market and the challenges we face in the growing Value Based Care world.

Until the merger with athenahealth is finalized there is a limited amount of information that Bob is able to share with us.

What Bob could share is….

  • He would have liked to share the announcement at CHUG, however, due to circumstances beyond his control was unable to and would like our users to know if he could have done that differently, he would have.
  • Virence continues to invest in the current Centricity product line and continues to deliver per the product roadmap.
  • Over the coming years, the two platforms will begin to come together with a larger and more focused research and development investment and plan.
  • Customers will have the option to keep their current software licenses or to migrate to a new revenue cycle management model.  You will NOT have to migrate to a new managed revenue cycle model.
  • Subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals, the transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2019.
  • The combined company is expected to operate under the athenahealth brand with headquarters in Watertown, Massachusetts.
  • The strategy is to take the best from each to create a stronger Healthcare IT company with an overall aim in driving healthcare outcomes that matter the most to users and patients.

We will continue to pass along information as we receive it. Please reach out with any concerns you may have. The CHUG Board and Virence Health want to keep an open dialogue as this exciting phase moves to completion.
Regards,

The CHUG Board

IMPORTANT PRODUCT NOTICE: Billing Module Impacted

November 15, 2018

Dear Centricity™ Practice Solution Customers:

As part of the Centricity Practice Solution (CPS) 12.3 release, we made a significant investment in updating the technology powering CPS’ User Interface.  This technology update was foundational in our journey to modernizing the look of Centricity Practice Solution and to enabling streamlined and insight-driven workflows.  As with all our releases, we complete an extensive set of tests to identify any potential issues that will impact your experience.

Unfortunately, our testing did not properly identify an issue within the billing shortcuts.

Log in to the Service Cloud Customer Portal and read the communication from Chad Dodd, Vice President and General Manager of Ambulatory Practice Solutions, for more information.

Important Announcement from the CHUG Board

The CHUG Board would like you to know we stand with you as fellow Centricity users. We will do our best to keep you up-to-date. When we have information we will pass it to you through email or news blasts and on our web/social sites. We understand how confusing and unsettling this change can be, and we share your feelings. We are hopeful this merger will bring with it renewed opportunities for growth both in software development and innovation.

We encourage you to reach out to your Virence Health Representative or any CHUG Board member with questions. We will be as transparent as possible in order to minimize any uncertainty.

We understand the frustration of CHUG attendees who left the conference focused on practice efficiencies and who are now left with uncertainty. Know that we too share in that frustration but remain hopeful for the future.

Virence athenahealth breaking news!

Today we announced some exciting news. Our partner, Veritas Capital, has agreed to acquire athenahealth, a leading provider of network-enabled services for hospital and ambulatory clients nationwide. As part of the acquisition, Virence and athenahealth will combine to form a true leader in healthcare IT. Once the transaction closes, which we expect in the first quarter of 2019, our Workforce Management business will separate as a standalone company, operating under the API Healthcare brand.

You are likely familiar with athenahealth and the strong reputation its products and services have in the market. Combining the athenahealth team, technology and solutions with our platform will greatly strengthen our ability to support you across the continuum of care, and we will remain focused on investing in innovation – building on everything that you have already come to appreciate about Virence. We are also committed to providing you with seamless support throughout this process, and our current products will continue to be available and operate in the same manner they do now.

Until the transaction closes, it will be business as usual, and Virence and athenahealth will continue operating as separate businesses. Following the close of the transaction, I will have the honor of leading the combined company, which will assume the athenahealth brand and be headquartered in Watertown, Massachusetts.

If you have any questions or concerns about the combination, please don’t hesitate reach out to your Virence representative.

Supporting your success and improved patient outcomes are our highest priorities, and I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. I look forward to embarking on our next chapter together, and hope you are as excited as we are about the significant benefits that this combination will bring for you and all of our customers.

Regards,

Bob Segert

Friday, October 27th – 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

Provider burnout is at an all-time high. Two thirds of family physicians report at least one element of burnout. Some specialties suffer higher burnout rates than others. Many factors contribute including growing regulatory pressures, inefficient EHRs, emphasis on RVUs, poor workflows, and work-life imbalance. Dr. Steven Waldren, Director of the Alliance for eHealth Innovation of the American Academy of Family Physicians will discuss the impact of burnout on healthcare providers and ways to avoid it. We will then have an open forum with GE Healthcare exploring how Centricity can assist providers to lessen the burden of EHRs on burnout.

Connecting Providers Forum: Healthcare Is Scorching Its Providers: The Burnout Epidemic

Introducing Hospital Connect: See How You Can Save Providers an Hour per Day

Join our webinar to learn more

October 12, 2017

Dear Centricity™ Practice Solution and Centricity EMR Customers:

The value of patient care is the single most important factor of success for healthcare organizations transitioning to value-based care. Care coordination across delivery settings is one powerful way for ambulatory practices to increase that value by enhancing care quality, reducing cost of care, and improving patient satisfaction.

However, care coordination has been challenging for the healthcare system. For ambulatory practices, current referral and information flow processes can waste provider and staff time and lack flexibility. Hospitals face the same challenges and also suffer from limited or no access to ambulatory records or detailed care plans, especially after-hours.

As a leader in standards-based interoperability, GE Healthcare has demonstrated that seamless clinical data integration among different providers and healthcare organizations can facilitate care coordination, thereby helping to increase the value of care delivered.

That’s why we are pleased to introduce Hospital Connect. This new solution, a part of Project Northstar, provides real-time access to clinical data from thousands of acute and ambulatory healthcare organizations via a single interface to the cloud. In addition, by integrating selected data into providers’ native workflow, this solution can save an hour per provider per day1 in chart reviews.

Hospital Connect is one of the first products in our new Centricity Healthcare Connections family that is intended to simplify your ability to communicate and collaborate with the greater healthcare community.

Join us for a webinar to learn more.

Transforming Patient Intake-Blog-Header

Date: Thursday, October 5, 2017 | Time: 1pm ET

Patient intake is a complex process with many moving parts requiring multiple different staff members from within your organization. From assisting patients in the waiting room to verifying insurance eligibility, the broad range of time-consuming tasks involved can seem overwhelming. Automating the intake process streamlines those tasks, making it far easier for healthcare organizations to improve operations and enhance the patient experience.

On Thursday, October 5 at 1 p.m. EST, we invite you to join us for an informative webinar that will cover the Phreesia integration with Centricity Practice Solution, as well as the business needs that the Phreesia platform fulfills.

During this session, we will be joined by a fellow Centricity client who will share why their practice chose to implement a patient intake management solution, the business needs they were looking to address, and how automating the front office has positively impacted their patients and staff.
In this webinar we will discuss:

  • The Phreesia Workflow
  • Key features of the Phreesia Dashboard
  • Phreesia’s integration with GE Centricity Practice Solution and how it can help maximize your investment
  • How Phreesia creates a positive patient experience

What to Eat: Po’ Boys

What to Eat: Po' Boys

When in New Orleans, Po’ Boys are a must eat. These sandwiches were first created to feed striking streetcar workers in 1929, many of whom were unpaid, picketing laborers free of charge (hence the name). Po’ Boys are served on crusty French bread and filled with roast beef and fried seafood (typically shrimp). Popular dressings are lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mayo. Johnny’s Po’ Boys is the best place to try these iconic sandwiches. Operating in the French Quarter since 1950, this family-owned lunch counter has nearly 50 different Po’ Boys.

CMS

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is granting exceptions under certain Medicare quality reporting and value-based purchasing programs to acute care hospitals, PPS-exempt cancer hospitals, inpatient psychiatric facilities, skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, hospices, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, outpatient dialysis facilities, long-term care hospitals, and ambulatory surgical centers located in areas affected by Hurricane Harvey due to the devastating impact of the storm. These providers will be granted exceptions without having to submit an extraordinary circumstances exception request if they are located in one of the Texas counties or Louisiana parishes, all of which have been designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a major disaster county.

The scope and duration of the exception under each Medicare quality reporting program is described in the memo posted on 8-31-17; however, all of the exceptions are being granted to assist these providers while they direct their resources toward caring for their patients and repairing structural damages to facilities.

If FEMA expands the current disaster declaration for Hurricane Harvey to include additional counties or parishes, CMS will update this memo to expand the list of providers eligible to receive an exception without submitting a request to include the hospitals, PPS-exempt cancer hospitals, inpatient psychiatric facilities, skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, hospices, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, long-term care hospitals, and ambulatory surgical centers located in the additional counties and parishes.

In addition, CMS will continue to monitor the situation and adjust exempted reporting periods and submission deadlines accordingly.

Additional details and materials are available on the CMS Hurricane webpage. Please check back frequently for updates.
